The Mim Project
Instead of letting them rot in the digital abyss of my hard disk drive, I have decided to compile 3 tracks completed earlier this year and repackaged them in a mini EP as The Mim Project. At least now they will have a chance to decay on the shelves of e-commerce and during that process try to etch out some cents which I hope to accumulate into dollars for myself.
So with all that effort and thought put in please support and purchase The Mim Project, especially if you really dig the tracks. In other words and a more fashionable manner, cop it!
You can name your price with a minimum of US$1 for all 3 tracks. Anything below that will mean most of the cents will go to PayPal. And let's not get into a lengthy discussion on economics.
Just click on the Download button on the player for purchase or you can cop it here.

About The Mim Project
Still undecided whether the plosives of Pembukaan, Purnama & Preamble are by coincidence or design, what I am definitely certain of these 3 tracks is that they are all built on samples from old Malay sounds. Hence Mim, the character you see on the artwork which is the Arabic/Jawi equivalent of the letter M. Stop the applause and the other half of you, wipe that smirk off your face. And after skipping the economics debate I would want to give semiotics a miss too.
So back on track and to the tracks, The Mim Project is a pastiche made up of patches from Orkes El-Suraya(a 70's nasyid group from Medan, Indonesia), sounds of keroncong, a stolen interview of the late Javanese literary great, Pramoedya Ananta Toer; all interwoven with the sensibilities of what Max Lane is or to become. Here's to my long-lost cultural heroes.

The Great Lie Experiment
On a rooftop somewhere in the western recess Noodup bravely put on a poncho and played up a sweet storm
Following right through into a LIVE jam with Rora Realis tapping at the window
Sun days are done in Fun and other days - bun dem down.

Less Talk More Rock
And so we heard, it's December. Before we make any preemptive sum up and cross over to the second decade of this millenium, I just like to unleash some new cookings. And yet again one of us has decided to don another new mask. Dear World, meet Rora Realis. The Rong Radio Station Remix is Rora Realis' too. If you can say that fast enough multiple times you might just figure out who he is. And the other track, is just another track. Well, it's time for me to keep to the subject title. Enjoy.

Cabriolet
Wonder what goes on in the backseat of a London Cab? Read on and banish those depraved fleeting thoughts...
Now try changing the setting of a cab into a venue of sorts, next hunt down some musicians and performers willing to wild out jams in a confined space, lastly record all of it down -

Death In Nihilism (A Hymn to Din)
An arrangement that I laid for a week through the mornings where my brother would walk into the room dancing through the playbacks as he gets ready for work and idiosyncratically beatboxes his own breaks between the bars. Less to my knowledge then, I had to lay him to ground a week after.
From James Joyce to Douglas Coupland, Velvet Underground to Aphex Twin, Bernado Bertolucci to Jim Jarmusch and a Powell Peralta Skull & Bone Skateboard to Fruity Loops v2.0; I am a product of his cultural consumption & grooming.
With that foundation cemented in me, I have been consuming as he had and creating as he would want me to. This is the last of my creation he will ever listen to.
Woi, this one's for you....

Head-ups Returned
After shouting out for their coming into existence below, I had a random breakfast online chat with Kiat from Qilin and it eventually became some sort of a raw 'interview'. Click here to read and you will be able to get Preamble for free too!
ps: something's cooking between part of Qilin, myself and a bunch of other nicer guys. So watch out for that.

On MeshRadio
Got invited by the island's legendary DJ, Ramesh K, to host Swing on his online radio platform, MeshRadio. The hour-long program will be streamed on Sunday, 14 June 09. Other than dropping my current favourite tunes in some serious selecktah bizness, for the first time ever, you will hear me speak over the mic. No toasting or line-spitting of any kind. It's just me talking.
So tune in 14 June at:
http://meshradio.sg/
(the show will be archived on the site after streaming date)
ps: Watch out for Christen Danse's hour of Swing to be aired soon too.

Non Sequitur: Singa-Scene
Radio Station Forgot to Play My Favourite Song (2003)
A 23-minute documentary on the contemporary rock music scene in Singapore. It features commentary from and footage of renowned DJs, music critics, industry bigwigs, producers and musicians.
________________________________________________
It has always been an age old debate about (1) the helpless history of rock & roll stigma vs. nation building sanitization, (2) the I-don't-care-about-you-but-your-local=bad-perception matters, and when you sprinkle a little economics on it, (3) the issue of critical mass.
Well, thank gawd for My/Yours/TheirsSpace and the current spectacle on national television; we can write our own history and change people's views weekly while still scratching our head figuring out a business model.
The place I call home but the 'kampong mat malay' bass still needs to be delivered. Talking about delivering and still on the home scene, here's a shout out to I Am David Sparkle for overcoming the challenges and will be rocking out at SXSW in a few days time.
We are still young!

Noo-Mutant-Dup
For sure he will be a tad too shy to drop this on his own. Our man, NooDup, will be making his first ever public appearance after centuries of hermitting in the Cave of Knowledge mastering chess-playing & code-cracking. Now known as the anti-hero legend and you can expect more unpredictable changes & transformations as the appearance is taking place at Mutant Dub afterall. Screwface will be there too, as his REAL self. Not too hard to notice, just follow the hair.

To the instigated
Weekends alone in your sanctum can be the most introspective.
And the fruits of this exile can be invigorating.
So recently i discovered the cultural world of dublab and its vast recesses. An independent non-profit radio(Web)collective whose actions have radically survived the weight of time. Although i have not yielded much research into their being, but it almost feels like i've plugged myself directly into their minds.
Here's a live performance by Flying Lotus, its pretty damn hot

MUDD UP EXXXCLLUUSSSIVVVE!!!!!
Thanks to DJ/Rupture, Purnama, a track i've completed recently, raided New York airwaves last night as he dished it out on his Mudd Up! radio show on WFMU. Apparently I was the first one to send a tune via his SoundCloud DropBox. Well I guess it pays to be the first. "Optimism pervades!"
